Workshop on “Technologies for Observing and Monitoring Plastics in the Oceans”. See attachment and the website for more details. The workshop is being held the 26-27 November in Brest France.

This workshop is part of an IEEE Oceanic Engineering Society (OES) is part of an initiative on the theme of plastics in the ocean. As it is IEEE supported, the theme is more “technical” and relates to observations, measurements, tracking and monitoring of marine debris.

The workshop will be held in an open forum format, with short presentation and discussions. The attached announcement presents the rationale and the outcome of the event. One of the aims will be to deliver recommendations through a technology roadmap for the coming five to ten years.

There will be no registration fee and the seminar/workshop will be mainly by invitation, at least for the presentations. We are expecting attendees from the local community and also from European/International institutions (ESA, EC, Copernicus, WWF, NOAA, GEO/Blue Planet).

You are encouraged to visit our website ( and to register to the event, either as a direct participant or as a remote one. In both case you’ll be able to post comments and associated documents on the workspace.

Note that IEEE OES can support some travels for speakers only. Please confirm to us, as soon as possible, your potential participation as attendee or confirmation if you are a presenting author (see attachement for details).
