International Scientific and Technical Advisory Board

The ISTAB is established to ensure scientific evaluation of the project and to provide for appropriate links to other programmes and for advising on the project’s scientific approach and orientation by liaison with the Executive Board of AtlantOS.

Terms of Reference

ISTAB members are chosen to serve a 4 year term during which they are asked to make a reasonable effort to meet in person three times during the lifetime of AtlantOS namely during the 2nd, 3rd, and final AtlantOS General Assembly.

ISTAB members are asked to comment on the performance of the AtlantOS project as a whole or on specific aspects concerning individual work packages.

ISTAB members are expected to bring their scientific and technical insights to the AtlantOS consortium and may wish to offer to facilitate increased interactions to other expert groups or scientific/technical activities.

ISTAB members are selected on the basis of their scientific and technical expertise and are expected to give constructive advice based on their perspective. They are not asked to represent or comment on behalf of their institutions.

The ISTAB may choose to form subgroups to engage more deeply in specific aspects of the AtlantOS activity and provide their insights and feedback to the whole ISTAB which then might choose to communicate it back to the AtlantOS project.

The ISTAB will be comprised of selected key international experts with a scientific or technical high-profile. ISTAB members are appointed for the entire lifetime of the AtlantOS project.

The ISTAB will appoint a chair from its members that acts as the main contact person and provides feedback to the AtlantOS Steering Committee.

The AtlantOS project officer appointed by the European Commission may participate in ISTAB meetings.

Prior to the annual face-to-face meeting the ISTAB will be provided with a brief project progress report including the most relevant accomplishments but also some of the most significant challenges. The reports function is to provide some basic information against which constructive advice during the in person meetings can be developed. In addition at each meeting the ISTAB will receive a brief overview presentation followed by appropriate discussion time.

The ISTAB meeting agenda will be jointly prepared between the ISTAB chair and the AtlantOS Project Coordination Unit (PCU).

The ISTAB is invited to participate in the entire AtlantOS General Assembly with all its side meetings.

Subsequent to each ISTAB meeting the PCU expects a summary report by the ISTAB detailing their recommendations.

Since we wish to work with the ISTAB in areas of mutual interest, we are open to cooperating on a more intensive basis. It might furthermore well be that individual ISTAB members based on their expertise are called for specific advice / discussion, however, this will be on a voluntary base.
