Agencia Estatal Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) is the primary research organization in Spain, affiliated to the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness. The CSIC undertakes work in practically all branches of knowledge with 116 centres/institutes all around Spain. The Instituto de Investigaciones Marinas de Vigo (IIM) is an institute from CSIC that has a wide range of oceanographic analytical facilities allowing the development of interdisciplinary research in oceanography. Its Oceanography Department has experience in fieldorientated research, both in coastal and open ocean, covering key issues of the chemistry and biology of marine ecosystems. This Department was pioneer in studying CO2 system in the oceans focused on the sequestration of CO2 by the oceans, and has participated in several EU projects, among others MORENA, CANIGO, CAVASSOO, CARBOOCEAN, and CARBOCHANGE, where the group worked in anthropogenic CO2 uptake in different areas an in the Atlantic Ocean. The CSIC owns several research vessels and among them the R/V Sarmiento de Gamboa, that has been used for repetitions of OVIDE section, alternating with French vessels.
