Alma Mater Studiorum-Universita di Bologna (UNIBO)

The University of Bologna, Alma Mater Studiorum, was founded in 1088 and is considered to be the oldest university in Western Europe. Nowadays, it still remains one of the most important institutions of higher education across Europe with more than 100.000 enrolled students, 23 faculties, 69 departments, 3000 academics and 3000 administrative staff. Some of the activities have been decentralised in four campus areas in the Romagna region (Cesena, Forlì, Ravenna and Rimini). The University of Bologna successfully participated to many EU funded FP6 and FP7 projects. The oceanography group of DIFA UNIBO is active in both the main and Ravenna campus of the University. Research activities are devoted to ocean interdisciplinary numerical modelling and ocean forecasting and in particular: development of Mediterranean and Adriatic Sea circulation modelling and biogeochemical dynamics, ocean data assimilation and forecasting, numerical modelling of pollutants fate and transport (oil spill), development of relocatable modelling systems for rapid environmental assessment (REA). The Tasks in WP8 will be lead by Prof. Nadia Pinardi (female) in collaboration with Dr. Marco Zavatarelli (male), both belonging to the DIFA UNIBO oceanography group.
