International integration of Atlantic ocean observing activities – further supporters / members are welcome.

Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS)

CNRS is a large research organization in France that employs close to 30000 employees, in all research fields, including environmental research. It is organized in institutes, with INSU being the one involved in AtlantOS, which contributes to the ocean observing systems and oceanographic research. Six major CNRS units, affiliated also to other research institutions and universities, participate to the BG8 proposal AtlantOS, mostly in WP 1, 2, 3, 5 and 7: LOCEAN (UMR7159), LMD (UMR8539), LSCE (UMR8212), LPO (UMR6523), LGGE (UMR5183), LOV (UMR7009). These institutions have long standing involvment in the tasks proposed, and have been contributing to physical and biogeochemical/optical ocean monitoring, data qualification, instrumental development, and ocean simulations/and testing of observing arrays performances for more than ten years. LPO, LMD and LOCEAN have also cooperated closely to partners in the South Atlantic. Most of them (except LMD) have all been involved recently in operational oceanography.
