NKE Instrumentation is a French industrial SME involved in the design, the manufacturing and commercialization of sensors and vectors support dedicated for oceanographic research applications. Knowledge domains of the R&D team are from the sensors design, acquisition chains and satellite transmissions. We are also involved, mechanical design for sensors, buoys and deep profiling floats. We develop as well hardware as embedded firmware. In the scope of AtlantOS, NKE proposes to develop a surface drifting buoy fitted with sea surface salinity sensor. One main point is to intend to reach a cost efficient solution. The buoy will be compliant with the DBCP recommendations (Data Buoy Collection Program). Such buoy will drift during one year in all the ocean conditions. NKE will use its already existing buoys and experience as based for the project. One important issue is also the protection against fouling.
NKE is supporting following tasks:
- Development of a drifting buoy fitted with a cost efficient SSS with reasonable accuracy target and robust against surface fouling
- To get a competitive drifting buoy with SSS
