The SME Ribocon is a professional bioinformatics services and solutions provider for microbiology, serving academia and industry worldwide. The company was founded in 2005 as an independent spin-off of the Microbial Genomics Group at the Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology and is located in the city of Bremen, Germany. Ribocon mainly acts in the fields of environmental microbiology and industrial biotechnology with key techniques spanning (meta)genome data analysis, software and database development/maintenance, and (rRNA gene-based) identification/classification of microorganisms. Ribocon is routinely processing large-scale DNA sequence datasets from next generation sequencing techniques and is regularly involved in (academic) research projects, ensuring continuous gain of technological experience in a fast-evolving field. Ribocon is also one of the maintainers of the SILVA ribosomal RNA gene database project (www.arb-silva.de), thus also wellexperienced with complex data structures and large-scale infrastructures.
