Task 6.5

New and emerging networks

This task will coordinate the development of new and emerging observational activities grouped around common platforms, observation systems and science – know in AtlantOS as networks. We will complete horizon scanning activities for emerging networks throughout AtlantOS and will act on opportunities. However, initially we will focus AtlantOS resources in four areas 1) on biogeochemical [UOP, AWI, NERC] networks; 2) (meta)genomics [AWI, CIIMAR, NERC]; 3) networks developed (initially) for industrial applications [NERC] and 4) ocean bottom pressure recording [NERC]. We target these because of observational or coordination gaps and because of their potential to transform products for users and stakeholders. We will also develop a pathway for engagement with new networks and documented best practice for their development and assimilation into IAOOS. Drawing on the outputs of tasks 6.1 to 6.4 this task will develop roadmaps for the development of each of these networks. This will include a business case outlining the links to stakeholders and user groups and the value of the products supplied to them together with an implementation plan detailing the governance, internationalization, coordination, metrology practices and technologies to be developed over a three and ten year timescale [D6.2].
